Functional Statement Title/#: Staff Psychiatrist: Acute Inpatient Psychiatry and Consult and Liaison Team
The incumbent, who will also serve as a staff physician reports directly to the Director of Inpatient Psychiatry or designee who in turn reports directly to the Deputy Associate Chief of StaffforMental Health Operations, and is responsible for providing psychiatric services to eligible veterans through the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS).
The incumbent will be responsible for:
The evaluationand management ofpatients on the acute inpatient psychiatry units, in the emergency room, will provide consultations to other services in the hospital and will have call duties.
Supervise trainees including medical students and residents.
Serve in hospital committees such as Medication Management Committee or Pain Committees and attend all meetings as needed etc.
Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
Degree: Degreeof doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency: Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
English Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Board Eligible/Board Certified: Candidate should be board eligible or board certified at the time of application.

Physical Requirements: This position requires: light lifting, under 15 pounds; light carrying, under 15 pounds; use of fingers and both hands required; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; both eyes required.
