We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Director of Clinical Operations to join our team and support the Office of Business Development & Planning
The Associate Director of Clinical Operations serves in the Office of Business Development & Planning and works in collaboration with School of Medicine (SOM) departments, divisions and clinic leadership, providing operational guidance and support to CU Medicine specialty and primary care practices. Responsibilities will span over 5 current sites of practice + any new clinical acquisitions.
The individual in this position will be expected to:
Maintain accountability for the successful operations and financial administration of CU Medicine primary care and specialty practices and related infrastructure.
Serve as the point person interfacing with the University of Colorado Hospital Authority (UCHA) for contracted and centralized services/staff ensuring patient experience remains consistent with UCHA practices.
Work in conjunction with SOM leadership to prepare budgets and monitor funding and expenditures of the practices with close attention to funds flow ensuring correct cost and revenue allocations.
Monitor practice financial performance, distribute monthly performance reports to stakeholders and alert leadership to deviations in financial performance to budget.
Ensure sufficient practice support with FTE coverage, infrastructure, equipment, incentives, innovations, etc.
Make recommendations for and implement clinical services growth opportunities including, but not limited to- expanding available provider time, adding augmented services (i.e. tele-health), implementing/staffing for workflows in support of population health, and other opportunities to support the Quadruple Aim, improve patient care and maximize utilization of the practice infrastructure.
Implement patient and provider satisfaction measurement tools and take action on opportunities to improve satisfaction within the practice.
Collaborate with the practice manager and medical director in responding to external and internal complaints regarding practice service and performance.
Work with CU MEDICINE and SOM departments/divisions to oversee clinical time allocation, productivity management and revenue generation; assure consistency of reporting; and provide input to new metrics.
Perform other clinical program analysis as needed including assessment of new programs; performance analysis of existing programs; review of proposed interdepartmental/UCH or CU MEDICINE initiatives, etc.
Work closely across the enterprise on marketing activities and community/physician outreach with CU MEDICINE and UCHealth to promote clinical services.
Coordinate with the Office of Value-Based Performance and the CU Medicine Compliance Officer to ensure practice policies and procedures promote the highest quality care, successful performance on value-based payer products, and regulatory compliance.
Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
Requires a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of seven (7) years progressive experience in multispecialty practice operations and management including responsibility for financial performance combined with a track-record of innovation in clinical service delivery. Master’s degree is preferred as is prior experience in an academic health system. Must have in-depth knowledge and experience in the areas of physician practice operations, financial management, billing and information systems, practice transformation, and leading the operations of a large-scale group practice. Demonstrated background in business development to include budgeting, P&L statements, grants & business proposals is required. The ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people and collaborate successfully within a complicated organizational environment is essential. Requires the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously without missing commitments and while valuing the importance of planning, follow up, detail and accuracy. Must be capable of developing collaborative relationships with physicians, inter/intra-campus partners, community leaders, and governmental agencies to enhance clinical practice performance, growth, and financial viability. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the communication skills necessary to elicit multiple points of view from a variety of sources, facilitate constructive interaction, and present information clearly, concisely and persuasively.
