Responsible for providing analytical leadership and support to Stony Brook University Hospital's (SBUH) Strategic Planning Department and the Stony Brook Medicine entities it serves.
Directs and conducts key analyses relating to business planning, community health, and strategy development. Provides support to SBUH's strategic planning, business development, and grants development processes. This will include conducting and managing market and service line assessments, consumer studies, competitive assessments, volume projections, utilization of publically available data sets, and tracking of regional and national trends. Will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and executing multiple research, data and report development initiatives. Will provide oversight to other analysts. Ensures the accurate and timely reporting of data.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Determine institutional data needs by communicating with other members of the Planning Department and with clinicians, administrators, finance, decision support, information technology, marketing and other areas of the organization.
Perform analyses by accessing a wide-range of qualitative and qualitative information, including market and trend data, physician productivity, and clinical technology. Acquire external benchmarks and information sets including competitor market share.
Analyze large Federal and NY State data sources to understand key drivers of business and use fact-based analyses to support decision making.
Synthesize information to support new program/service design, establish program benchmarks, grants development, strategic plans and certificate of need (CON) development.
Manipulate and display quantitative and qualitative information in the form of reports, presentations, maps, and graphs that reflect the synthesis, summary and translation of data in an actionable form.
Collaborate with members of the Finance, Decision Support, Information Technology, and Biomedical Informatics teams on analyses.
Regularly identify opportunities and develop enhancements to the team's data repository and associated reports, and supporting software. Continually look for opportunities to enhance the data and reporting capabilities of the team. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with departmental software and data vendors.
Provide training and insights to other team members and direct oversight of data analysts. Assure the accuracy of the work prepared by the analysts that this position oversees through standardized approaches to completing and checking work products.
Minimum 3 years' experience with quantitative and qualitative research, data analytics and interpretation are required.
Project management experience required.
Must have healthcare knowledge, including a working knowledge of DRGs, ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes, and CPT codes, service lines.
Ability to work within a matrix structure.
Ability to work independently.
Must demonstrate excellent analytical and research skills with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be customer service oriented.
Must be able to work within a multi-task environment.
Requires excellent PC skills and advanced spreadsheet management knowledge; must be an advanced user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Five to seven years' experience with quantitative and qualitative research, data analytics and interpretation preferred.
Survey development and analytics experience.
Knowledge of statistics.
Knowledge of Truven's Market Expert.
Knowledge of Tableau.
