The Senior Human Resources Generalist is a critical role in Human Resources and has the ability to impact outcomes across the organization. Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the Sr. HR Generalist is responsible for partnering with leadership to provide support regarding benefits management, employee relations issues, performance management, and organizational effectiveness. The Sr HR Generalist also works collaboratively with the Human Resources Director on the continuous improvement of performance management process. The position is also responsible for onboarding of new hires and HRIS management.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The position of Senior Human Resources Generalist is a confidential position and plays a key role in the operations of the Human Resources Division. This position is an exempt position under the laws of the FLSA. This position reports to the Human Resources Director.
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22 bed acute care hospital and 28 bed long term care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. The working environment is generally pleasant, clean and well maintained. The position requires a moderate amount of mobility. The ability to reason, speak and have basic manual dexterity is essential. There is the need to attend meetings and classes both inside and outside of the hospital setting and to participate in interviews or provide training within the hospital building. Physical demands are moderate and may include sitting, standing for prolonged periods, walking, stooping and occasional lifting. Psychological demands can be very strenuous. Most work is performed inside and the work is generally of a positive nature.

The individual in this position is given the latitude to perform their job duties in a thorough manner, while remaining within the scope of their position description. Any problems or concerns regarding this position should be directed to the Human Resources Director.
None. The Senior Human Resources Generalist does not supervise other positions.
Major challenges of this position are:
Complex employee relations concerns requiring advanced conflict resolution and problem solving skills,
critical data analysis that oftentimes must be manually created, management of human resource projects within required timeframes.
The Senior Human Resources Generalist is in contact with leadership members, staff, union representation and outside vendors. Every effort should be made to project a professional, positive, friendly image of the facility when communicating with these contacts.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. The position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. This individual should have extensive knowledge of computer software applications to include: Human Resources Information systems, word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MSWord, Excel, Publisher, Power Point). Able to operate such general office machines as a, personal computer, adding machine by touch, FAX and photocopier. Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing, data entry and proofing materials; establishing priorities and meeting deadlines. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field, required; at least five (5) years’ experience as a human resources generalist or like position, required. Extensive benefits experience required. Union experienced preferred. Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), within two years of hire, required.
Performs all job functions in a safe manner.
Identifies safety hazards in the department and the workplace.
Reports all injuries per Hospital policy. All reports must be made within 24 hours.
Assist on a wide range of employee relations issues, including performance management and employee conduct. May investigate grievances, working collaboratively with the Human Resources Director to develop integrated solutions.
Employee Engagement and Satisfaction
Support employee engagement and satisfaction evaluation via exit surveys, bi-annual survey process and outcomes analysis as well as other indicators
Training and Education
Assist in the development and deployment of leadership training programs as well as staff training related to human resources processes and soft skills.
Coordinates projects through systematic project management approach: project plan document development to include conception, team selection, scheduling, monitoring, completion and evaluation.
Data and Information Management, Reporting and Analysis
Employee electronic file creation and maintenance including initial entry, compensation and other changes, EEO-1 report annually; maintains other records, reports, and logs to conform to EEO regulations. Maintains a system of bi-weekly notification to managers of probationary employee hours. Prepares and completes statistical documents and reports that are orderly, accurate and professional in appearance. Maintains Position Control data.
Provides on-boarding to new employees using an approved method of communication and introduction.
Maintains strict confidentiality of employees, patients, facility records, conversations and work performed.
Regularly attends mandatory meetings, annual review and available hospital sponsored seminars.
Assists in identifying own educational needs and maintains appropriate skill level through available educational opportunities.
Makes suggestions and personal requests in a non-abrasive manner.
Deals with interpersonal conflict in a healthy, positive manner.
Understands and follows the chain of command in dealing with problems and concerns.
Is familiar with facility policies & procedures.
Practices daily cost containment efforts of hospital and uses resources appropriately, ie: lights, water, food, fuel, supplies, etc.
Completes an acceptable work load, accepts additional tasks willingly.
Plans and organizes work activity to complete scheduled assignments on time.
Adheres to departmental dress standards and maintains personal hygiene.
Comes to work on time and complies with the hospital-wide attendance policy.
Takes appropriate 30 minutes for lunch and 15 minutes for breaks.
Takes no more than 4-7 sick days per year, except for extended illness/injury.
