Mental Health America (MHA) is looking for a Policy and Programs Associate for its office in Alexandria, VA or Orange, CA. Responsibilities will include analyzing screening data to create reports, writing reports and publications, writing health education content for the general public, and supporting the Policy and Programs Team. The Policy and Programs Associate will report to the Vice President of Policy and Programs, assist with MHA’s policy and program efforts regarding prevention services for all, early identification and intervention for those at risk, integrated care and treatment for those who need it, and recovery as a goal.

Perform necessary research and statistical analysis, e.g. policy issues, national survey data, MHA’s screening data, google analytics, literature reviews, and environmental scans
Manage MHA Screening database – which includes cleaning and analyzing large data files (over 3 million responses)
Work with team and external partners to improve the reach of the MHA Screening program
Perform analysis on screening data, including issuing monthly and quarterly reports to participating partners as well as self-directed reports throughout the year
Support general development and implementation of MHA programs
Write public education content for a lay audience
Support written analyses and public education materials including social media and online materials
Provide technical assistance to MHA staff, affiliates, and stakeholders on MHA programs
Support the MHA policy and programs team in synthesizing research on mental health science and policy

The ideal candidate is:
Good at interpreting quantitative and qualitative data for general audiences
Flexible, creative, interested in learning new tasks
Familiar with statistics and statistical (SAS, SPSS and Excel)
Excellent at written and oral communication skills
Familiar with creative tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Tableau)
Comfortable editing standard webpages.
Experienced and knowledgeable about mental health and communities
Experienced with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
Able to work cooperatively with diverse groups and individuals
Willing to travel—mostly local, but occasionally overnight (less than 10%)
