The System Director provides leadership for the day-to-day operations of the organization’s compliance program, serving as the key focal point for developing, implementing and monitoring the compliance program. The System Director of Compliance is responsible for mentoring and developing an effective Compliance team that delivers value-added, high impact, customer-focused regulatory, audit, and consulting advice. This position assists the Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer in ensuring Fairview Health Services Compliance Program meets the standards for an effective health care compliance program, as set forth by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
This position directs the annual compliance risk assessment, manages the established work plan, and responds to regulatory investigations, as appropriate. This position directs system resources, including the revenue cycle compliance team, compliance partners, compliance liaisons, and compliance programmatic functions. This position is responsible for the organization’s compliance education program.
The System Director of Compliance reports directly to the Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer
In collaboration with the Chief Compliance Officer, develops the organization’s compliance program and leads and oversees the implementation of the plan.
Provides administrative management of the organization’s hotline, collaborating with internal customers throughout the organization to ensure comprehensive review and resolution of reported issues.
Reports on a regular basis to the Chief Compliance Officer on the adherence to and implementation of compliance and regulatory standards.
Works with leadership to identify and resolve potential compliance issues, presenting findings in an appropriate, collaborative manner.
Prepares compliance reports that detail compliance issues and corrective actions taken to assure ongoing compliance.
Revises compliance policies and code of conduct based on the needs of the organization and regulatory changes to meet compliance program goals.
Creates processes that encourage managers and employees to report compliance issues without fear of retaliation.
Develops and participates in creation of policies, procedures and education programs to ensure all employees and management are knowledgeable of, and comply with standards and understand the importance of ethical and legal conduct.
Coordinates and conducts internal compliance review and monitoring activities, including periodic reviews as determined by the annual work plan and/or leadership request. Assists leaders in the development of an action plan in response to potential compliance issues.
Leads compliance initiatives with the compliance program function as well as across functions throughout Fairview Health Services.
Manages relationships and maintains communication with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
Gains support from decision makers at all levels of the organization and leads/directs compliance initiatives.
Coordinates the organization’s compliance committees to ensure that issues are identified and resolved.
Assists the Chief Compliance Officer with development of reports for executive leadership and the board.
Oversees the development and management of administrative functions (budget, timekeeping) and personnel.
Mentors and develops compliance team members and organizational compliance resources.
Fosters a culture of integrity, continuous improvement, efficiency, collaboration and innovation.
Assists the organization in interpretation of compliance program elements, concepts, risks and applicable regulations.
Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
Education Bachelor’s degree
Ten (10) or more years of progressive experience in health care compliance, internal audit, revenue cycle, and/or operations, with a minimum of five (5) years leading a complex, multi-system compliance program, including multiple hospitals, ambulatory facilities, physician groups, academic research, pharmacies, and post-acute care.
Extensive experience in coding, billing, documentation compliance.
Extensive knowledge of government requirements/expectations for healthcare compliance programs.
Extensive knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid regulations and state/federal regulations.
Demonstrated record of collaboration and effective management of compliance initiatives and teams.
Certification in health care compliance (CHC) or similar within one year of hire date
Health Plan compliance and joint venture compliance experience is desirable.
