The Health Information Management Unit Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department of a particular site within the Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS). Utilizes experience and knowledge with the electronic health record, health information systems and healthcare applications, and with regulations and accreditation standards related to the management of health information. The Unit Manager demonstrates leadership skills, exercises judgment, uses industry defined practices and policies when selecting methods and techniques in problem solving, takes the initiative to make decisions, and is an advocate for change. Ensures clinical documents are securely transported from main hospital to the HIM Department for preparation and scanning. Ensures HIM and vendor staff follow legal, regulatory, compliance, accreditation, HIPAA, hospital/departmental guidelines and CCHHS policies and procedures and to assist and ensure that legal and Local Record Bureau guidelines are followed for record retention and destruction.

Shift: 7:00am-3:00pm w/ rotating weekends
· Develops and oversees processes in the HIM Department by ensuring that HIM processes and controls are evaluated against the organizations internal and external information needs on an ongoing basis.
· Acts as a resource throughout the organization on Health Information Management and as a liaison between the Health Information Management department and internal/external stakeholders.
· Responsible for direct supervision in the absence of the supervisor.
· Responsible for In-service and Training Programs and/or projects as assigned.
· Responsible for solving problems for document imaging and release of information (ROI).
· Takes steps to actively transition from paper based health record to a fully integrated electronic health record and provides education and guidance to the clinical and clerical staff transitioning to the electronic health record.
· Processes and assists with audit requests (i.e., RAC, eQHealth, Insurance, and etc.)
· Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (official transcripts due at time of interview)
· Credentialed by the American Health Information Management Associate (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) (proof due at time of interview)
· Three (3) years of experience managing health information staff
· Three (3) years of experience working in a hospital environment
· Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
· Five (5) years of experience managing health information staff
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
· Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups
· Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict management/resolution skills
· Demonstrate strong management and leadership skills
· Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize projects and tasks
