SCOPE The AVP is responsible for facilitating the planning process and performance management activities for Ballad Health. The department coordinates these functions across the system’s 21-hospitals, physician practices, long-term care services, home health, post-acute services as well as various corporate areas and service lines. The AVP of Strategic Planning coordinates and supports the execution of the strategic direction of the organization which is greatly influenced by a focus on improving the health of the populations it serves. Working with operational leaders, strategy deployment across Ballad Health in support of aligned goal setting and outcomes is a primary function. This role should drive the organizational performance management system which ensures successful strategic implementation across the enterprise.
The Ballad Health Strategy Department leads and/or assists in the development of strategic plans, annual operating plans, business plans and market and environmental assessments. This position is expected to understand, assess and develop strategic initiatives that will change the way Ballad Health delivers care and move the organization closer to the vision of a true population health improvement enterprise. Essential Functions:
Guide development of a standard methodology and tool set to support this work, and train others to use the tools. Monitor progress of tactics in the strategic plan.
Lead development of success indicator scorecards and reports.
Guide the redesign of department to ensure necessary skill sets and tools required to adequately support the system in the future, including scenario planning, enhanced data analytics and visualization tools, as examples.
Support the Value-Based Contract and population health initiatives across the system.
Maintain expert knowledge of the local and national health care market, products and direction, including understanding the changing reimbursement and payor landscape necessary to assist in navigating Ballad Health through this industry evolution.
Manage external market analysis work on an ongoing basis including competitor profiles, measurement and monitoring of competitor activities and their impact on Ballad Health as well as detailed market share reviews.
Coordinate planning regulatory processes including Certificate of Need/Certification of Public Need applications and state and federal data submissions.
Proactively identify emerging issues by researching “best practices”, and developing recommendations for new strategic initiatives.
Responsible for managing five positions reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President.
The Assistant Vice President will possess a Master’s degree in an appropriate management discipline (i.e., MHA, MBA, MPH, etc.). The position requires a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare or related field, including at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
