The Director of Marketing will work closely with the Director of the UT Southwestern Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center and report to the Associate Vice President for Marketing. This position will serve as a key part of the Simmons Cancer Center’s commitment to growth. The Director of Marketing will develop and oversee the implementation of strategies and tactics that promote and build the reputation of the Simmons Cancer Center, locally, regionally, and nationally. The Director will work within a matrixed environment to develop marketing programs and lead initiatives with a diverse team of marketers, communicators, digital experts, academicians, and administrators that will advance brand impact and grow clinical volume and reputation. A key strategic component of this position will be to integrate and balance the marketing and communications needs of the three complementary missions of the Center: patient care, research, and education.
Create an annual marketing communications plan for the Simmons Cancer Center, based on priorities and mandates set forth in the institutional strategic plan. Develop and manage brand/reputational marketing and communications programs, as well as direct response marketing programs for key clinical areas that produce measurable impact on patient growth. Develop, implement, and monitor systems necessary for a consistent experience and messaging between offline and online activities, and inbound and outbound digital marketing programs. Develop and track KPIs that demonstrate the value of marketing initiatives.
Develop, unite, and manage, in conjunction with UTSW Marketing and Communications leadership, a cross-functional team with marketing responsibilities for all areas of UT Southwestern cancer care, including prevention, screening, treatment, education, and research. Build and unite a strong team while being an equally strong team player.
Partner with the Digital & Interactive marketing team to build and amplify the brand of the Simmons Cancer Center across owned web properties, social media, and paid media channels. Develop and optimize digital marketing campaigns for online engagement and brand awareness. Ensure that all digital campaigns optimize the user experience, the user journey, and create effective conversion funnels. Implement A/B testing and multivariate experiments with both content and graphics for each major campaign.
Establish and maintain oversight of a system of internal controls, which provides reasonable assurance that marketing and advertising dollars are being allocated effectively, that operations are efficient, assets are safeguarded, and financial and volume growth information is tracked.
Establish a key stakeholders leadership group and conduct formal stakeholder group meetings on a regular basis to help determine goals, priorities, and maintain strategic direction for all cancer marketing efforts.
Maintain awareness of the local and regional competitive landscape and of key national market segments and trends. Proactively leverage UTSW research and other existing sources of information to generate innovative marketing initiatives that distinguish the institution from its competitors. Leverage data analytics to identify market opportunities to gain competitive advantage and develop specific marketing and outreach initiatives, partnering where appropriate with community resources. Work with leadership to regularly conduct relevant market research; coordinate and oversee this activity. Monitor trends and adjust strategies accordingly.
Work with Simmons Cancer Center clinical leadership and the Physician Outreach team to create a system of growing, tracking, and managing physician referrals.
Direct the development of programmatic promotional materials as needed, targeting patients, referring physicians, donors, trainees, and the community at large.
Negotiate with and manage the work of outside vendors as appropriate. This may include digital branding, direct response campaigns, web design/development, and creative.
Collaborate with the Communications team to identify newsworthy stories in both the research and clinical areas.

Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree and eight (8) years of experience in marketing, digital marketing, or marketing communications with at least four (4) years of management experience. The ideal candidate will have experience working within an academic medical center environment, be a strong, creative, and flexible leader with a proven track record of success in omnichannel marketing, with experience in successfully motivating and directing a team of dynamic professionals. Experience in implementing digital strategies including onsite, social, and paid media. Background of working within an academic medical environment preferred.
