JOB SUMMARY: Internship training is one piece of what is required for those students who are planning a career as a certified child life specialist. Works closely with Child Life Specialists to develop professional skills while working in a healthcare environment.

Demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the hospitalized child's needs without over-reacting to the severity of the diagnosis.

Uses sound judgment in choosing appropriate and safe toys and activities.
Able to carry out oral and written instructions without continual close supervision.
Able to communicate effectively with staff, patients and their families.

Demonstrates flexibility to function in a changing environment.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Preferred Majors: Child Life, Child development, Human Growth and Development, Child Psychology, and other related fields
Applicants must have completed a total of 10 college-level courses in child life or a related department/subject. Note: All applicants for the fall 2013 and subsequent exams will be required to successfully complete a minimum of one child life course taught by a Certified Child Life Specialist as part of this requirement.
Minimum GPA 3.0
Minimum credits: Must be in last semester of senior year of college or already graduated.
NEEDED DOCUMENTATION: Two letters of recommendation from faculty, supervisors, or employers, who have directly observed your work with children. Each recommendation should be paragraph-style addressing your knowledge and skills relating to your work with children and professionals.
Documentation of experience with children in a health care setting under the supervision of a Child Life Specialist. (Minimum 75 Hours)
Documentation of previous experience with well infants, children, youth and/or families. (Minimum 75 Hours)
Copy of Approved Coursework Review.
