Director of Marketing & Communications

The Director of Marketing & Communications for Kern Medical is responsible to lead and develop the health care organization’s marketing and communication efforts.  This position is located in Bakersfield, California and reports to the President of Hospital and Clinic Operations.

JOB DUTIES & CAPABILITIES: The job requirements include, but are not limited to the following:

Project Management

• Lead cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders, complex inputs, and time sensitive deadlines
• Manage multiple projects and people simultaneously
• Know when/how to elevate issues to senior levels in order to drive decision-making on key projects
• Ability to develop and manage budgets

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Develops strong, trustworthy relationships with cross-functional partners throughout the health system
• Effectively removes barriers, gains alignment to, and manages priorities cross-functionally
• Considers multiple point of views and has the ability to evaluate, challenge and promote debate of key project and business issues to optimize solutions

Public Relations

• Engage with media and key influencers to maximize specific programs and respond to media inquiries
• Provide guidance and counsel to spokespersons as needed; including briefing materials, interview prep, media relationship management, etc.
• Develops talking points that are appropriate for media requests.
• Collaborates with digital and product marketing teams to ensure alignment
• Develops, writes and edits original material for press releases, proposals and related administrative publications in print and/or electronic media.
• Draft, circulate and manage reviews/approvals for created content

Technical Skills

• Directs creative campaign and strategic communications for various audiences
• Develops, writes and edits informational material to promote fundraising, including brochures and other marketing collateral materials.
• Identifies appropriate photography for internal newsletters and campaigns and for social media.
• Translates written reports into "lay speak" for internal & external audiences.
• Understanding of current digital marketing practices and metrics.
• Strong oral communication skills with excellent presentation skills

Understanding Target Audience

• Exhibits an understanding of the target audience and consistently utilizes a consumer-lens in order to make recommendations and decisions
• Identifies type of audience while presenting to leadership team or broader organization
• Continually monitors competitive landscape and identify additional growth opportunities for services
• Manages a consistent and harmonious brand message across all channels.

People Leadership

• Coaches and mentor direct reports in functional and leadership competency development
• Focuses on big picture, prioritizes work and minimizes extraneous work for team
• Manages day to day activities of Marketing and Communication staff
  
  
  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred
• 5-7 years of project management, marketing or communications experience
• Healthcare experience preferred but not required
• Strong project management skills and attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal communication and team working skills
• Experience in developing marketing plans
• Understanding of Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office
• Previous experience leading and working on cross-functional teams
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, fast-changing environment
• Proven, reliable work history
• Desire to work for a large health care organization with a focused mission of patient care, medical education, and community service

• Senior manager or director with experience gained at both large & entrepreneurial companies
• Highly skilled at being agile and can effectively pivot priorities, strategies, and initiatives
