Responsibilities

In this position, you will serve as the Fire & Construction Safety Manager for the Westwood and Santa Monica Medical Centers and the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital (RNPH).  Your primary duties will be those associated with the Fire & Life Safety, Construction Safety and General Safety programs. In addition, you will support the Hazardous Materials and Disaster Preparedness programs. Responsibilities include:

  • assisting with the development and implementation of programs that ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and Joint Commission standards
  • implementing programs and performing functions that support the programs listed above
  • ensuring a safe, healthful and secure environment for staff, patients and visitors
  • advising the Medical Centers and RNPH community regarding regulatory responsibilities and requirements
  • identifying and communicating risks and contributing to their minimization or resolution
  • acting as a Trainer and Safety inspector for construction contractors, Facilities Leads and PDC Project Managers
  • auditing construction and major renovation activities before, during and after projects
  • ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations
Qualifications

Required:

  • Must have or achieve within 60 days of employment one of the following certifications: CHSP, CSM, CSP, ASP
  • Working knowledge of NFPA regulations related to fire safety
  • General knowledge of hospital communication systems, including voice paging, smart phone technology, Microsoft Suite and other computer-based programs
  • Skill in preparing concise, logical and grammatically correct memos, policies, reports and other documents
  • Skill in developing, implementing and maintaining a Fire Safety Program
  • Ability to conduct or facilitate training sessions for new and continuing employees
  • Ability to work flexible schedules as needed (including nights and weekends)
  • Ability to lead committees, meetings and employees
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members, managers, administration and external persons and regulatory agencies

Highly desired:

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER and 8-hour DOT Hazmat Basic General Awareness Training and Certification
  • General knowledge of fire and construction safety and basic industrial hygiene safety equipment used in hospital and other healthcare settings
