The Sr Database Analysts role is to consult with and advise multiple client groups and technology teams on policies and procedures, technical solutions, priorities and methods related to data and data management strategies. Provide technical and subject matter expertise for the planning, analysis, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and control of enterprise databases. Lead the design, testing, and implementation of complex/critical data management projects/initiatives. Serve as the go-to resource for unique database management situations and best practices.
Gain thorough understanding of data requirements and business/client needs, lead highly complex and/or critical data/database management initiatives involving multiple disciplines and business groups, to include infrastructure and database architecture, design, integration and data modeling. Execute and/or oversee execution of the design or redesign, testing, implementation, and maintenance of complex databases that meet or exceed functionality and performance requirements.
Provide technical expertise and strategic, innovative solutions to drive and optimize database function. Influence long-range internal and enterprise-level data/database architecture and management strategies. Serve as a consultant on data and database-related technological advancements.
Maintain cutting edge knowledge of industry best practices, processes and technology tools and trends. Champion and contribute to the continuous improvement of database management practices, using innovative ideas to increase effectiveness of the overall DBA organization. Maintain up-to-date understanding of available resources including appropriate training and job aids. Provide input and guidance on company-provided or external training for practitioners.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with business partners, vendors, other technology departments and database team(s) to ensure customer satisfaction with database design and performance. Respond to and resolve issues or concerns raised by business partners and customers. Provide timely communication to leaders and practitioners. Provide oversight, technical guidance and initiative/project leadership to more junior staff.
Support the development process by managing and/or administering database and system performance, including: optimization, upgrades, backups, extractions, and rollout/tuning of data loads. Recommend procedures, query or package changes to optimize system performance and reliability. Provide technical and subject matter expertise for the planning, analysis, design, development, implementation, maintenance and control of enterprise databases.
Provide day-to-day support and trouble shooting of enterprise databases, including analysis, trouble-shooting and repair of production issues and fulfilling query requests from the business (ad hoc and scheduled). Manage job and activity schedules to promote optimal performance, maximum availability and minimal data latency and data load durations. Design and document data security and protection techniques to meet business and regulatory requirements.
Computer Science/Engineering degree or equivalent work experience
7+ years of experience with database design, administration and maintenance in distributed environments.
5+ years of experience troubleshooting and resolving database issues, including performance tuning and capacity planning.
5+ years of experience maintaining highly complex/mission critical enterprise-scale database environments.
5+ years of experience effectively leading teams in project/initiative execution, including influencing without direct leadership responsibility.
5+ years of experience with Exadata and ZFS
5+ years of experience with AWS and/or Azure
Oracle Certified Associate (OCA)
Microsoft Certified Solution Associate (MCSA)
Demonstrated success working in a matrixed, multi-vendor technology environment.
Expertise in SQL coding (required to understand performance implications and translate requirements to application developers).
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to translate technical information to non-technical audiences and vice versa.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and lead in urgent situations with high pressure and visibility.
