This position completes reprocessing of critical and semi-critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) and quality assurance tasks for Sterile Processing Services (SPS) under Nursing Service. Responsible for accurately completing work performed in all work areas of the department including but not limited to, decontamination, instrument preparation/assembly, high level disinfection, clinical areas throughout the facility and outlying clinics. Major duties include: - Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas. - Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment. - Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner. - Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment. - Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas. - Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment. - Maintains a clean work area. - Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards. - Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills. - Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, medical condition and procedures. - Uses the computerized instrument tracking system in the performance of assigned duties, obtaining instrument count sheets, obtaining special handling instructions for instrumentation documenting sterilization loads, and other assigned tasks. - Maintains a clean and orderly central processing area (e.g. shelves, counters, equipment) - Operate and maintain equipment; keep records of loads completed, items of loads and maintenance procedures performed. - Report defective equipment to supervisor or staff. Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts: 8:00AM-4:30PM; 6:30AM-3:00PM; and 9:00AM-5:30PM, Monday-Friday. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
