Members of the MemorialCare Interoperability job family build and support enterprise integration and interoperability platforms throughout MemorialCare entities, providing critical infrastructure solutions to evolving healthcare needs of the organization. MemorialCare’ s Interoperability team utilizes a wide variety of tools and skills to solve complex business needs, provide access to data and facilitate communication between both internal and external systems. The Interoperability team has primary responsibility for developing and implementing solutions integrating applications across the enterprise with the use of established protocol such as HL7, X12, XML, and HIE.
The Interoperability Architect possesses expert level knowledge in all areas of operational and system support in completing advanced-level troubleshooting and problem-solving activities. They act independently to architect, build, test, validate, and document Interoperability solutions in response to change requests and new initiatives. They proactively drive collaboration across MemorialCare to ensure Interoperability solutions are designed for maximum efficiency and value add, per defined policies, as well as industry best practices. They independently respond to and troubleshoot a wide variety of complex issues, break/fixes and service requests from both internal and external team members and providers. They mentor peers and provide educational/informational sessions to significantly impact workflows, troubleshooting or system design pertaining to the overall team as well as internal implementation processes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
- Architect, build, test, and validate integration and EDI solutions and ancillary applications including complex HIE and integration solutions such as InterSystems HealthShare
Act as primary subject matter expert for MemorialCare system integration
Ensure high levels of application availability and user satisfaction through department process improvement initiations, interoperability customer service solutions, and other opportunities
Identify problem situations and consider potential solutions
Participate and lead Interoperability projects by translating integration designs into viable solutions and managing customer relationships
Maintain on-going assessment, design, development, and implementation of Integration and EDI systems and applications
Mentor team members as well as provide customer service for interoperability and EDI solutions
Conduct knowledge transfer of implemented solutions to internal and external teams
Review and maintain appropriate end-user references
Support system upgrades and intermittent releases
Record and report on relevant Key Performance Indicators
Track issues and provide solution-oriented escalation

Essential Job Outcomes
- Architects, builds, tests, and validates more complex HIE and integration solutions such as InterSystems HealthShare while providing advanced level knowledge and support of the platform.
- Provides basic support of overall system health through monitoring and troubleshooting of databases and servers.
- Applies in-depth knowledge of applications to ensure effective and optimal use of Interoperability solutions, incorporating refinements based on organizational changes or process improvements.
- Acts as primary technical and subject matter expert addressing problems of system integration and overall compatibility. Drives precise project execution through consistent planning and communication.
- Identifies and resolves complex problems and issues associated with enterprise wide applications to ensure high levels of application availability and user satisfaction.
- Stays abreast of current and emerging data technologies and trends and advises on how they can be used to support business and technology objectives. Builds prototypes to determine feasibility when warranted.
- Identifies problem situations and considers all perspectives in terms of scope and consequences. Recommends refinements in applications based on organizational changes or process improvements
- Maximizes the maintainability of Interoperability solutions keeping customization at a minimum so that upgrades can be done efficiently and economically.
- Leads small and large IS projects by setting team direction, coordinating activities across different organizational functions, establishing status reporting, evaluating progress towards objectives and meeting deliverables, managing customer relationships and expectations, and taking corrective actions when deviations stray from plans as necessary
- Provides direct support for all EDI applications and systems including workqueue management, Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) process monitoring, error analysis, vendor support, and user provisioning
- Initiates, facilitates, and leads meetings with end-user and internal staff members. Acts as user liaison between professional departments and Information Systems; leads others to adhere to established industry best practices, standards, and quality.
- Manages and maintains accountability for end-user satisfaction and the success of assigned tasks. Performs in depth and precise investigation and documentation of future-state operational specifications, Integration and EDI functionality.
- Applies high-level, specialized data exchange expertise to improve processes and support strategies as well as assist Interoperability personnel. Responsible for the on-going assessment, design, development, validation, and implementation of Integration, EDI, and ancillary applications.
- Serves as a source of support and a positive role model through mentoring junior staff on build on build, workflow processes, testing, and implementation processes. Functions as a source of assistance and a positive role model by modeling desirable behaviors.
- Initiates department process improvements; identifies, designs, and implements processes, including the outline of a maintenance plan.
- Conducts knowledge transfer of implemented solutions to internal and external teams
- Works closely with other team members on complex Health Information Exchange (HIE) and integration solutions such as InterSystems HealthShare.
- Completes assigned tasks and projects successfully, while proactively communicating with project management or leadership to prioritize workflows and mitigate risks. Tracks issues and provides solution-oriented escalation
- Demonstrates collaboration within and across application teams, system representatives, and vendor support.
- Reviews and maintains appropriate end-user references, job aids, and tip sheets using standardized tools and templates expressing ideas clearly utilizing language and terminology that is understandable for readers
- Reviews relevant release notes, support documentation, and vendor bulletins in support of system upgrades and intermittent releases
- Records and reports relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and performance data as required by leadership
