JOB SUMMARY |
NexGen Cost Accounting Project (NCAP) is a project that will create and implement a new cost accounting solution that allows for patient and member level reporting of financial results for Kaiser Permanente. We are looking for a person to join the cost accounting team. The team member will support the design, implementation, test planning, test execution and eventual production support of the NCAP cost models for Colorado Permanente Medical Group (CPMG), Northwest Permanente Medical Group (NWPMG), and Washington Permanente Medical Group (WPMG). This position will be responsible for consulting with regional subject matter experts from the CPMG, NWPMG, and WPMG regions, in costing clinical utilization data and balancing cost data back to regional financial statements, analyzing costed utilization to ensure that costs are spread correctly, and auditing the costing process to ensure that overhead and direct costs are allocated correctly. This position will review statistics used to allocate costs to ensure they are accurate when compared to utilization information. May be responsible for special analytical projects and research of data quality problems. |
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES |

| - This position will be expected to be a strong analyst with a degree of technical proficiency and solution design, be an effective communicator, and able to manage to timelines. Specifically, the person in this position.
- Ensures timeliness and accuracy of the monthly costing process, including managing and monitoring work to ensure that work is completed within defined service level agreements.
- Obtains and loads clinical utilization data and works with regions to correct errors and ensure that utilization is mapped to the correct clinical department. Responsible for determining correct mapping of utilization to industry standard codes to identify the appropriate relative value units. Responsible for allocating overhead costs to direct costs and auditing and analyzing results.
- Reports on status of the costing process to regional leadership.
- Analyzes and solves problems in utilization process, costing process, and supporting statistics and works with regional financial and clinical personnel to develop appropriate solutions.
- Responsible for providing consulting and expertise to other analysts in support of the cost accounting process.
- Independently determines and implements appropriate measurement and analytical methods to achieve specified analytical or task objectives.
- Exercises independent professional judgment regarding analysis assumptions and data quality.
- Identifies and resolves data quality issues, as required.
- Collaborates work with other team members to accomplish specified analytical project or task objectives.
- Leverages solution patterns developed by system architects to design cost accounting transformation processes and documents those processes in Business Requirements Designs per project standards.
- Works with technical staff to implement business designs.
- Develops business / UAT test plans and test queries to demonstrate that solution supports business objectives.
- Works with NCAP project and vendor staff (Strata) to implement a cost accounting solution using the Vendor's software.
- Determines the most informative approaches to summarizing data and communicating analytical results. Develops, as required, innovative or customized templates and formats.
- Given project or task data requirements, determines the most efficient approach to data collection and validation and works independently to obtain needed data for cost accounting.

- Applies analytic knowledge, skills, and experience to perform project-related work, complete specific project tasks, and create project deliverables.

| Minimum three years related work experience Demonstrated effectiveness in written and verbal communication of technical material. Outstanding written and verbal communication and effective interpersonal skills. | Knowledge of healthcare industry, especially healthcare analytics preferred. Experience with analysis of large administrative databases and computer-intensive statistical analysis (preferably using SQL), multivariate statistical methods, general research methodology. General knowledge or work experience in cost-benefit or cost-effectiveness analysis.
