DescriptionSUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Cleans, wraps, sterilizes, stores and distributes equipment, supplies and instruments used in patient care.
Works under the supervision of the Director of Sterile Processing and Distribution to provide direction and coordination for all systems and processes supporting the activities; functions; and talent management of Sterile Processing and Distribution. Ensure the delivery of safe high-quality services based on standards and best practice guidelines published by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) so that customer service and satisfaction are realized by those served.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES???Compliance - Patient Services Management
Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Evaluate area of responsibility for compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Identify best practices as well as deficiencies to share with peers and make recommendations for improvement. Participate in the development of corrective action plans to guide needed and sustainable improvements. Provide project leadership, and/or hands-on support for implementation of operational dashboards that allow the area Director to monitor progress and ensure gains are attained and sustained. Ensure that compliance and readiness plans are current. Work with department leaders of Center for Professional Excellence (CPE) and Accreditation Services to improve staff competency, compliance and documentation. Enhance relationships to promote interdisciplinary involvement and knowledge of compliance standards, status, and actions. Track laws, regulations and standards that may affect practice and policies. Work with direct reports to ensure that needed changes are made by the effective date of any change(s) in requirements.
???Leadership
Provide programmatic leadership for all systems and processes supporting activities and functions of Sterile Processing and Distribution to support safe quality patient care outcomes within the Operating Room and other patient care areas within the organization. Develop and implement goals, standards, policies, educational programs, procedures and practices in alignment with the strategic plan. Monitor and respond to situations that affect daily operations. Participate in the development, coaching, engagement and evaluation of staff. Effectively communicates through facilitation of staff meetings, leadership team meetings and/or staff retreats. Fosters interdisciplinary teamwork and design of systems to enhance practices across departments and disciplines. Facilitates employee understanding of job requirements. Ensures availability of appropriate training to develop and maintain staff competence. Consistently presents a unified front between management and staff.
???Financial Management
The financial management responsibilities of the department manager include: Assisting in preparation, management, and evaluation of annual fiscal operating and capital equipment budgets for assigned area(s); assisting in management and evaluation of monthly variance reports for assigned area(s) identifying areas for cost containment; developing, monitoring and managing productivity measures for assigned area(s); coordinating and monitoring time reporting and payroll; and maintaining department position control accuracy. Financial management includes collaboration with Clinical Director and Business Director on area-specific financial initiatives.
???Quality Improvement
The quality management responsibilities of the department manager include: fostering an environment that promotes a spirit of inquiry and continuous quality improvement; monitoring department functions, recommending approaches for improvement activities; collaborating with other departments in hospital-wide performance improvement initiatives; designing new processes, collecting, measuring, and disseminating data; reviewing and reporting performance over time; improving and redesigning processes based on the evaluation; reassessing continuously; identification of patient care needs; evaluating innovative patient care equipment and supplies, making recommendations for purchase; ensuring support of quality patient care outcomes through policy and guideline development.
???Regulatory Compliance
Ensures the delivery of quality services based high reliability standards, AAMI/ANSI standards and best practice guidelines so that customer service and satisfaction are realized by those served and supported. Monitors unit compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies. Formulates, implements and monitors corrective actions as identified through consistent unit tracking and hospital wide policies and guidelines. Develops, implements and maintains department environmental compliance monitoring through structured rounding of department and adjacent areas. Monitors documentation compliance of sterilization records and/or other documentation sources for the department and areas supported.
QualificationsEDUCATION/EXPERIENCERequired:???Associate's Degree in a related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience
???5 years related experience in quality, process improvement, quality control, and operational organization
Preferred:???Bachelor's Degree
???Certified Registered Central Supply Technician (CRCST) through International Association or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
???Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) through International Association (IAHCSMM) OR Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution (CBSPD)
