The program manager implements APHA’s climate change activities as they relate to education at the K-12 and college level. The manager is responsible for monitoring budgets, grant management, and program development and execution. The manager serves as the primary liaison to key APHA member units, as well as to various partner organizations. The manager works closely with colleagues in communications to amplify the work of the Center for Climate, Health and Equity; provides resources, educational opportunities, and project updates to students and teachers engaged in this work; and conducts research and analysis to develop products and materials as needed. The position is grant funded and guaranteed through December 2023.
Work closely with the Deputy Director of the Center for Climate, Health and Equity (CCHE) to plan and implement programmatic activities and track all work and outcomes. Assist the Deputy Director with oversight of grant operational plans and budgets, coordinating and communicating with funders, submitting required reports, overseeing evaluation processes, and entering and managing related consultant and sub-grant contracts. Develop and disseminate communications materials and educational products related to climate change, health and equity, liaising with CCHE staff and advisory board members for technical input and/or guidance. Maintain and build strong partnerships and coalitions to advance APHA’s climate and health education work. Create and lead a student ambassador program to support youth leaders in their climate and health education, communication, and/or advocacy efforts. Coordinate with internal departments, such as membership, conventions, affiliate affairs, communications and government relations. Present at meetings and conferences representing the CCHE. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.
Master’s degree and 2+ years of related work experience; or 4+ years of related work experience. Working knowledge of climate change, health equity and/or environmental justice. Project management experience (grant/budget management experience also a plus). Knowledge of and familiarity with principles of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion. Compassionate, inclusive communications skills. Versatile writing ability and ability to communicate complex ideas to broad audiences. Analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Strong planning, organization and time management skills. Commitment to working collaboratively and respectfully with team and partners. Must be able to travel occasionally.
Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations. Hybrid work environment.
Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Monday - Friday (daytime). Number of openings: 1.
