The role you’ll contribute:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients and then monitor the characteristics and functions of tissues or organs in which the drug will localize. Also explain test procedures to patients, prepare a dosage of the radiopharmaceutical and administer it. The technologist must adhere to safety standards that keep the radiation dose to workers and patient as low as reasonably possible. Perform a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of radio-nuclides for diagnosis and treatment.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Identifies the patient using two methods to assure correct patient has arrived for the exam.
Checks patient’s chart, or outpatient prescription and department schedule, for physician procedure request.
Reviews physician’s procedure request with list of clinically valid indicators for the requested procedure to assure appropriate procedure has been ordered. Also, refers possible inappropriate requests to the radiologist to review.
Prepares radionuclide using sterile technique, carefully checking labels to assure correct isotope has been prepared prior to administering to the patient.
Administers radionuclide demonstrating good intravenous technique. Maintains IV access for patient comfort when multiple studies have been ordered.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Minimum qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent required.
State of Florida License - Nuclear Medicine
National Registry by Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
BLS certification
Preferred qualifications:
AS or BS in nuclear medicine
CT cardiac experience
Experience with optical discs and a laser camera is preferred.
